Hiking And Camping On Aiea Ridge

Aiea Ridge Was One Of The Greatest Hikes We've Been On. It is a 12 mile hike over the ridgeline above the Halawa valley and the "Interstate" H3. To get to the trail head set your gps to Keaiwa Heiau State Park and be on your way!

IF YOU SEE THIS SIGN YOUR IN THE RIGHT PLACE!

Continue up the road through the state park until you get to the top of the hill, and see the last parking lot with a public restroom to the right.

Once you see this restroom go ahead and park and get your hiking things ready don't forget food and water!

Now that you have parked lets hurry over to the trailhead for Aiea Loop which will be our starting place for
the Aiea Ridge trail.

This Here Is The Entrance. (notice the bathroom we just parked at to the right)>^

Now we're gonna continue on the Aiea Loop Trail for a bit till you reach a conspicuous junction with a lookout point looking towards the H3. To the left of this lookout you will see a somewhat randomly placed set of small concrete stairs. This marks the beginning of the Aiea Ridge Trail. So continue up the steps and your adventure has begun.

While Enjoying The View Remember The Stairs Are To Your <<<Left (DONT FORGET!)

You'll know your on the right trail when you realize you are getting closer and closer to the Testsuo Harano Tunnel below. Also the trail will begin to become thin and to look like this covered in ferns.

Congrats you are on the Aiea Ridge!

Along the way as you enjoy the panoramic views of the entire island don't forget to keep an eye out for tasty fruits! Like this guava i found along the way.

YUMM!!!

As you continue on this roller-coaster over the ridge. Don't forget to look back and say goodbye to civilization...odds are you wont be missing it!

Ummm.... Gooodbye....Cruel World  Haha j.k. Lets keep MOVING

Along the way also keep an eye out for beautiful birds and insects. Like this beautiful purple butterfly...

Also keep an eye out for the interesting plant life. Boy is it beautiful up here...

Anyone Know What This Interesting Plant is?

Oh my look at how the time has flown by, we are already getting much closer to the Tunnel! And much closer to our camping spot!

While looking down at your phone trying to call ur mommy and tell her your alright make sure to keep an eye out for this sucka. Otherwise you might not be "alright" after all.

Does this sweater make my ass look big? WTF!?

And on we go to the real Fern Gully. Here you will see fairies and ferns. Well at least you'll "think" you saw fairies but no one will ever believe you... Now stop Moping and get a move on!

Am I the only one seeing fairies? Or are you that Fern Gully-Bull?

Give yourself a high five, Cuz we are half way there! As you traverse the ridgeline and brush through the ferns. Feel the wind through your hair.

Its a jungle out there.

Keep an eye out for plenty of leprechauns as well, i seen a few in these parts. This one seemed to have left his walking stick...

And stay out of me damn woods yee gremlins!

Oh cool its another insect. This one happened to be a very dragon-esque DragonFly!

Go up and over each little ridge until you reach one MASSIVE one where will you be climbing much more steeply. Have you been on all of these yet? Yes? Really? We are almost there!

At last we have reached our campsite time to finally take a break, sit back and relax.

NOW SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE VIEW

Uh Oh looks like the clouds are moving in. Better get setting up camp...

Now i'm hoping you brought your tent right? yes? ok lets set it up now shall we?

That Looks Like A Good Spot

Worlds Coolest tunnel rest down below. Reminds me of Jurassic park for some reason...

Looks like the suns going down and the clouds are moving in eventually surrounding us in them...

Surrounded In The Mist

Finally got a fire going to cook up some beans. For a few minutes anyways...

The views that night from our campsite were spectacular... Look at all those lights.

THEN MORNING CAME... WITH A STICK UP MY BACK.... AND A WET TENT... IT WAS ALL WORTH IT....FOR ONE REASON....
